Vacancy: School Governor

   We’re looking for a dedicated individual to join our successful governing body.

 

‘Governors are highly skilled.  They have a secure understanding of the strengths of the school and the priorities for improvement. This helps governors to challenge and support the school in equal measure.’

Can you help?

We are looking for someone to join our governing body and to contribute to the ongoing success of the school.

  • Meetings are held on weekday evenings during term time, with approximately six meetings per year.
  • Governors should be passionate about helping to deliver the best possible education for children and to support the development of Holme Community School.
  • Governors work as part of a team, and act as a ‘critical friend’ to the school leadership team.

 

What do governors do?

  • Governors define the school’s strategic direction through setting annual improvement plans.
  • Governors raise standards by regularly monitoring performance against agreed targets.
  • Governors set and oversee the school's budget and a three-year balanced financial plan.
  • Governors agree policies and ensure adherence to them.

 

What skills are needed?

  • An interest in enabling all children and the school to succeed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to be open to new ideas, listening to and learning from others.
  • Time to read papers in preparation for meetings, and occasionally visit the school to develop an understanding of the school.
  • Desirable: Experience with building and estates management, capital projects, project management.

 

Who can be a governor?

  • Anyone over the age of 18 years of age
